Big Bear Alpine Zoo
Big Bear Alpine Zoo
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is not your typical zoo — it's a dedicated wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center that provides a forever home to animals that cannot be returned to the wild. Located at 6,700 feet elevation, the zoo houses over 160 animals representing more than 90 species, including black bears, mountain lions, bald eagles, snow leopards, and gray wolves.
Every animal at the zoo has a rescue story, and the staff is passionate about sharing these stories with visitors. The zoo offers daily animal encounters and educational presentations that give visitors an up-close look at the incredible wildlife of the San Bernardino Mountains and beyond. Kids especially love the interactive experiences, including the opportunity to watch feeding times and learn about animal care.
The zoo operates year-round and offers special seasonal events, including Boo at the Zoo during Halloween and holiday celebrations. The facility also runs important conservation programs and serves as a teaching center for wildlife biology. A visit to the Alpine Zoo is both educational and heartwarming, making it a must-do activity for families visiting Big Bear.
